Something Quirkier

Words on the Wind

Community Arts Project

Supported by Tuggeranong  Arts Centre and Arts ACT.

For this project community members made flags to represent the streets of Garran which were named after Australian authors. This project involved over 100 community members from the Woden Valley, including the Garran Scouts and students from Sts. Peter and Paul Primary School. Over three months, as the flags were made, they were in included in the installation in front of the Garran shops.

Small Blessings

Community Arts Project

Supported by Tuggeranong  Arts Centre and Arts ACT.

This exhibition consisted of four main sections. You can find out more about each section by clocking on the links below.

Enveloped - a community quilt based on individual stories about small blessings.

A Conversation Between Birds - an installation of hand crafted textile birds.

Delighted - an installation in the roof space of hand-crafted textile fish

Community contributions - artefacts, including puppets, photographs, had felted items and handmade dolls linked to ideas of small blessings.

This page gives some insights into the design of each section and some information on how the community could contribute to the project.

Nobody at all.

Written by Harriet Elvin. Directed by Lynn Petersen, performed by Amy Crawford and Michael Giacomin.

This radio play was recorded and produced by Bart Meehan at ArtSound FM as part of ArtSound Radio Theatre.

The play was also reworked and performed in the Courtyard Theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre, 2023, for VET students to design, rig and operate lighting as part of their assessment. You can watch a video of the production here. Note - this recording was made for students and actors to study.

Something Quirky This Way Comes and Something Quirky Again!

Have a look at videos made for two past projects, created in collaboration with Canberra Region Feltmakers and creative folk from the Canberra Region and beyond.

The Haunted House

In collaboration with Amy Crawford and Stefanie Lekkas, I developed a radio play from a short story by Virginia Woolf, The Haunted House. We recorded the play at ArtSound FM with Bart Meehan (who also did post production editing) for ArtSound's Radio Theatre program.

The piece was reworked for stage for the Canberra Theatre Centre Vocational Education and Training program (VET). Students participating in the Certificate III Live Production course used this theatre piece for a lighting design assessment task. The lighting in the video was designed and operated by CTC VET students with the assistance of their trainer Christopher Maher. Videography by Ian Petersen. Felt Mysterious

Canberra Region Feltmakers held a ‘Mystery Canfelt Along’ where participants learnt how to make glorious Nuno-felted wraps using fine wool and silk fibres and silk gauze.

I collaborated with Ian Petersen (photographer) and models Dairinn, Sharyn, Nadia and Anne to create the photographs which I then curated into an on-line gallery. Check out the promotional video below.

I have also curated other online exhibitions for the Canberra Region Feltmakers' including ‘Canfelt Along For Convergence’ and ‘Celebration’. Participants in these projects sent me photographs which I may have edited and then places in the online gallery.
