Something Quirkier

Beyond Small Talk.

A multi-faceted interactive performance incorporating: feltmaking, story telling and improvised poetry and song.  Developed and presented in collaboration with Lightbulb Improv.

Audience members learnt to make a wet-felted flower. Whilst they were making their flower they conversed with the improvisers - telling stories about their experience of small blessings. These stories were turned into poems or songs in a 20 minute improvised performance. The performance ended in a sing along - with the audience helping to construct a four part rondel (adapted from the medieval round Rose Redthat summed up their experiences of the evening

The key intentions of this part of the project were to:

  • connect authentically with the audience
  • honour the shared stories through creation of poems and songs
  • leave the performance feeling affirmed and uplifted
  • introduce people to the art of felt making and improvisation

A comment from one of our audience members (Ted, aged 11 - a whisker away from 12):

“Thanks for the show. It was good and had a good sense of community. And I felt like I was a celebrity because everyone knew my name’."

He also sent us some photos of his flower drying in position at home. Some images from the evening:
